Rev. Henry L. Perkins was called to pastor the First Baptist Church family in August of 1991. Since that time, he has established himself as a remarkable influential servant leader. Pastor Perkins’ modus operandi includes strong biblical teaching, victorious Christian living, and a holistic approach to improving the lives of people. Pastor Perkins is a prolific academic. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the College of Alameda, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from Golden Gate School of Theology, and a Master of Divinity Degree from American Baptist Seminary of the West. His hunger and desire to be enriched intellectually and spiritually has led him to study at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, California where he is currently a candidate for a Doctor of Ministry degree. In August of 2011, Pastor Perkins was selected to attend the Proclaimers Place at Oxford University in England studying the Proclamation of the Christian Gospel. During his time in England, he preached the morning worship service at the Whitchurch Baptist Church in Hampshire. This sermon was published as part of a collection of sermons articulating the distinctive voice and experience of the individual preachers who shared a time of studying biblical exegesis, hermeneutics, and homiletics at Regents Park College, Oxford University.
His professional expertise includes Adjunct Professor at American Baptist Seminary of the West, Consultant for Church & Community Development. He is also a licensed Real Estate Broker with expertise in budget development and maintenance, real estate sales and listings, first time home buyers workshops, probate real estate listings, mortgage loan solicitations, and underwriting. He is currently an active member of the Association of Real Property Brokers and the Contra Costa Association of Realtors.
Remarkably, Pastor Perkins still finds time to serve in religious, community, and civic affiliations. He is the former President of the California State Baptist Convention, past Moderator of the Home and Foreign Mission District Association, past President of the Inter-Denominational Ministerial Alliance of Pittsburg, and past Commissioner of Leisure Service Board in the city of Pittsburg. He currently serves on the Pastoral Services Team at John Muir Medical Center, the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, and Chaplain for the City of Pittsburg Police Department.
As a progressive visionary, Pastor Perkins leads the people of God in enriched worship services with his practical, yet insightful and charismatic preaching style and in-depth bible study. His ministry extends beyond the walls of First Baptist Church with the vision and oversight of various outreach ministries such as the Academic Center of Excellence, Social Services Program, First Baptist Institute, Sunrise Cafe, Head Start, community-based case management for families at-risk, and more.
Pastor Perkins is dedicated to using his gifts to glorify God while edifying God’s people. He is committed to leading people into abundant living, holding fast to holiness, integrity, and Godly purpose. Pastor Perkins is an avid family man and enjoys a passionate and enriching life with his wife, Patricia, their two young adults, Enjoli, Enrée and his wife, Robin, and their grandchildren, Xavier, and Aliyah.
